Weekly Wonderous Moment in Comics #25

The 4th wall, or more specifically, breaking the 4th wall, has always intrigued me. Sometimes it can be cheesy, sometimes it can get an EPIC FAIL!, but when it works, it works wonderfully. Observe this scene from Green Lantern #39, 1965. Black Hand decides his plan is soooo great that he has to tell us about it.

cheesy
It's the 60's so it has to be cheesy. By the way, this is the only Green Lantern book that I have ever owned.

  1. Ah Black Hand. He used to be SOOOO cheesy. Hal always beat him up. Heck even Guy beat him up, and that was without a ring. Then Geoff Johns started making him dangerous, and now he's another whole kettle of fish.

  2. Ah, but that's what was so fun about Black Hand -- he DID break through that wall. He was the first Green Lantern character to ever do so. (Not counting all the times Gil Kane broke through the "wall" as the illustrator/narrator.) :-)
