The silence was deafening...

Watched the Oscars tonight (it was actually watchable & enjoyable tonight) and during the farewell tribute where they remember the folks that have passed away in the last year the non-response that Charlton Heston received was absolutely deafening.

Yup, all of their tolerance really brightened my day. Thanks Hollywood, for giving one of our greatest actors a sitting non-vation.

Wait, did they boo him? Intolerance would be if they'd booed him.

Nope, intolerance is doing anything other than hoisting someone upon your shoulder and parading them around for 40 hours, not unlike a masked Mexican wrestler.

Seriously, for the magnitude and scope of Heston's work, silence was akin to booing. I expected Neuman to get the final spot, his work was monumental as well. It's sad that the folks in that room let politics get in the way of art and the proper recognition of it.

Funny how the Hollywood left always seems to forget that Charlton Heston attended the Civil Rights March in 1963 and was frequently outspoken about segregation at a time when actors did not pick up causes (as opposed to now). Funny how die-hard liberals Oliver Stone and Rob Reiner could attend his funeral, but a room full of stuffed shirts couldn't find it in their hearts to applaud Heston.

Then again, this is the same ceremony that a few years ago greeted the victory of a statutory rapist who lives in Europe to escape US prison with wild applause. Seems like that can be forgiven, but if you speak up for gun rights or are anti-abortion, you're unforgivable.

I noticed that too, Dwayne, and I thought it was pretty shameful -- not to mention petty. It's been said that art transcends politics. You'd think, of anyone, these people would know that.
